Boston Ballet: La Bayadère

The Boston Ballet is celebrating it's 50th season at the Boston Opera House, and with an opening night like La Bayadère, it's easy to see why.

“La Bayadère is a feast for the senses,” said Artistic Director Mikko Nissinen. “Complementing the technical qualities of our dancers is an intriguing love story, set in the vibrant and exotic India, and performed to a beautiful score by Ludwig Minkus. It is the quintessential classical ballet.”

Elaborate sets, fantastical costumes, the cornerstone of which are the enticing performances by an incredibly talented cast, beautifully supported with an enchanting musical score. The entire production is of a calibre that is out of the world, and maybe only surpassed by THIS production.

Florence Clerc's La Bayadère premiered in Boston in 2010 to rave reviews and is considered to be one of the greatest classical masterpieces ever to be choreographed.

To me, every time my hand flutters to my face in open-mouthed awe and amazement, that is the magic of the ballet...

La Bayadere is on now at The Boston Opera House until Sunday November 2, 2013, for tickets visit the Boston Ballet website.

Alice + Olivia

I scored these Alice + Olivia shorts the other day from Neiman Marcus.   Would you believe these were down to $53 from $158? Then I only ended up paying $3 for them as I had a gift card.  I love a good deal.

What's been the greatest deal you've ever snagged on something?

Animal Print

Y'all know how much I love a good leopard.  Print, that is.  And animal print is nothing new to the seasons, it is a classic print that goes with anything, but when I saw these Franco Sarto wedges with the unusual placement of fur, I was sold.  (photos by photohogger)

So, how do you animal print?

And if you haven't already, ENTER TO WIN THIS FABULOUS COPPER CUFF from ESMA STUDIO! Contest ENDS TODAY at 5pm EST!  Stay tuned for the WINNER!

Amsterdots

I just donated a polka dotted hoodie from H&M amongst other articles of clothing which didn't fit in the closets here (having moved from a house in the burbs of Ontario to an apartment in Cambridge). I also didn't know about the SIP and SWAP until too late, which would have been ideal for the boxes of clothes that we had.  Still, it's a good thing I didn't get rid of all my polka dots, as it's all very trendy and happening this season.

It was also happening in Amsterdam. (photos by photohogger)

Are you en trend? Or an avid avoider of polka dots?

BFW2011: Daniela Corte

Boston Fashion Week ended with a bang on Friday September 30, when Daniela Corte's collection came down the runway.  It was one of the most exciting events, the TENT was completely sold out and filled to the brim.

BFW2011: Daniela Corte

The big finale of Boston Fashion Week took place on Friday September 30, when Daniela Corte took place on centre stage.

What a close! It was one of the most exciting events, the TENT was completely sold out and filled to the brim.

Here's just a teaser of the show to come. Whose shoes?

We were trying to figure out what the lady on the left was wearing. Anyone know? The other two are the designers :) Smashing!

BFW2011: Carter Smith

On the final night of Boston Fashion Week, one of the most colourful shows took place in The Tent at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel.  The Carter Smith show.

Carter Smith's Shibori process (Japanese dyeing technique by way of manipulating the fabric then dyeing it) results in a one of a kind, rich fabric, which is then sewn in a way that flatters every figure.

Here are some of my favourites.

BFW2011: Second Time Around

Boston Fashion Week has been filled with amazing collections; with one of the most unique being the Second Time Around show.

On Friday September 30, STAConsignment took place in The Tent at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel in Boston.  STA is a premier consignment company featuring affordable, wearable yet high-end items in over 25 boutiques in the city.  The show, with it's funky style, bright pops of colour and trendy looks was a huge hit with the audience.  Here are my faves.

BFW2011: Jeff Lahens

It's been so much fun shooting in the press pit at Boston Fashion Week!

On Thursday September 29, Jeff Lahens' show took centre stage in The Tent at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel in Boston. The collection was his own as well as a collaboration with Uniform, Bobby from Boston and Drinkwaters. What an incredibly good time! Everyone was pumped; the tunes were upbeat and the models had PROPS! PROPS! Jeff Lahens is such a nice guy; we hung out with him for a bit in the lounge after the Carter Smith show on Friday night.

BFW2011: Avni Fashion

It’s been great shooting in Boston Fashion Week 2011!

Last night, Avni Trivedi's show took centre stage in her "Midsummer NIght's Dream" Spring/Summer 2012 collection.  Here, some of the highlights from the show!  Nice work Avni; and thanks for the tickets :)  It was great to meet Amir and his friend who was one of the models in the show.  Great job everyone!
I also ran into fellow Boston Bloggers "A Girl In Boston" and "Style N' Naina", so nice to have finally met you both in person.  And can I say how much I loved those Mallory Musante shoes, too?

BOSTON FASHION WEEK: Designer Spotlight: AVNI TRIVEDI

Avni Trivedi

As a designer born and raised in India, Avni's brand and collection speaks volumes of the local craft and fashionable culture of India.  The handmade textiles are transformed into wearable creations for those living in either the eastern or western world.  Avni, who is based in Boston, has created a contemporary brand for the urban, yet culture-savvy woman.

BFW2011: Lily & Migs

It's been great shooting in Boston Fashion Week 2011!

Last night, the Lily & Migs show took center stage in The Tent!

Wow.

I've heard chiffon is a difficult material to work with (thanks Project Runway!) so, watching these gorgeous, pleated, fitted, blousy, multiple tiered creations (in chiffon! silk! and georgette!) strutting down the runway was truly a delight. Such a beautiful collection and those models were rocking some amazing fish-tail braids!

Here, some of my favourite shots from before the show, during and after. It was great meeting Jenn of the Jenn & Lauren team behind Lily & Migs!

BOSTON FASHION WEEK: Designer Spotlight: LILY & MIGS

Boston Fashion Week is here!  It's my first #BFW2011 and I'm looking forward to shooting some of the shows starting next week!

For now, I'll feature the designers I'm looking forward to.

Lily & Migs

The brains behind the design are Jenn and Lauren, who met as interns at Betsey Johnson in '08.  Their label is contemporary, fun and versatile with looks that can be paired and worn with anything!  I love how their company name came about from the process of naming each of their kids, too.  How sweet!

Zooey is the NEW GIRL

Have you guys heard about this new show starting in the fall?  Zooey Deschanel is going to be playing Jessica Day as the NEW GIRL on Fox.  (All images via Pinterest)

I can. not. wait.  I am a huge ZOOOoooey fan.  What is not to love about her?  For one, she has THE most amazing BANGS and tresses, magnificent big blue eyes and how adorable was she with Joseph Gordon-Levitt in 500 Days of Summer?

I'm also excited that Damon Wayans Junior (that's right, son of funny man Damon Wayans) will be on the show, too.  We really enjoyed watching him on Happy Endings, which I've heard may be cancelled (why?! It was so funny!)

Here's what Zooey had to say about WOMEN in television and film (btw, have you all seen Bridesmaids, yet? I think it's the funniest film I've seen all year!):

"I think we're in a time right now where there was a tipping point [and] so many of the pilots that were picked up were female leads, female written.  Girls are kicking butt in comedy and [with] 'Bridesmaids' doing so well, I feel like this is a new frontier."

And here's a tribute to all things Zoooooeeeey!

Pleats

I used to have a black pleated midi skirt that I gave away a long time ago.  Don't you regret doing that when the style comes back?  I love how graceful these pleated skirts look, and how perfect for summer?

What's your summer style?  Are you a skirts and dresses person or a shorts and t-shirt person?
