Boston: Snow

Well, it's SNOWING again in Toronto!
So much for Spring!
In Boston there was a theme around snow.
It made a great nesting ground.

Hot Dog

I may have a thing for hot dog vendors. They're so interesting. First shot is from Boston.  The second from New Orleans.  The hot dog and condiments are from San Francisco. Haha.

New Orleans

It's easy to overlook travel photographs when other destinations get in the way.  :) So, here are some more shots of N'awlins (from the Summer of '08!) that I never got around to posting!

Other N'awlins posts, here and here.

Family Day Weekend

We went away this past long weekend, and stayed in a ranch house in La Peche, Quebec.  It was a cosy cabin and although there were fourteen of us, we were all well accommodated.  We played charades, made s'mores, watched movies and ate poutine.  For breakfast we made waffles using this recipe.  We also spent the day in Ottawa skating on the Rideau Canal (the world's largest skating rink).  It was fuh-reeeeeeezing, but the beavertails made it all worthwhile.

Hope your weekend is filled with all kinds of goodness!

Paris: Bicycle

It's Friday, so here's a bicycle shot or two and a lovely green mosaic wall on the Rue de Rosiers.

It's a long weekend for us here in Toronto; Monday is "Family Day".
It's also Presidents' Day, for those of you in the States, so have a GREAT LONG WEEKEND!

Paris: Macarons

So, everyone, and I mean EVERYONE told us to visit Ladurée in Paris for their famous macarons! We found a little kiosk at the  Printemps department store. I was surprised that the lady didn't allow us to take any photographs of it, though.  Also, we decided to save them to eat in the Jardin du Luxembourg, but by then, they were smushed.  We liked the pistachio best. A couple of them tasted like soap. I wish everyone had told us which ones to order.

Melvin Sokolsky

I have to pause with my Hawaii photographs, here, to share these incredible shots by photographer Melvin Sokolsky (via exPress-o).

These were taken in 1963, for Harper Bazaar's Spring Collection.

I'm in awe of these, not only because they're just plain gorgeous to look at but also because they were done pre-Photoshop! These were done the old-fashioned way; cranes and pulleys!

Amazing.

Hanapepe Village

Meaning "Crushed Bay", this little town was quite littery crushed during the hurricane of '92.  On the South shore of Kaui'i, the town was started by Chinese rice farmers in the 1800s and mostly associated with bar brawls.  Films such as The Thorn Birds and Jurassic Park were filmed in the village or in the nearby Hanapepe Valley.  The Hanapepe Swinging Bridge is one of the tourist attractions of the village (rebulit after '92), but the town appears to be mostly deserted now, save for a few art galleries and gift shops.

When we arrived there on Dec 26, everything was still closed for Christmas. It seemed like  a ghost town.

Hawaii: Day & Night

Happy New Year! Wishing you all a happy, safe and healthy 2011!

2010 was a fun-filled year full of exciting events and travels! Here's to more of the same in 2011 for all of us!

Hawaii was amazing; it's such a beautiful place! Three years ago, we were on Oah'u and Maui and did a lot of the sites (Pearl Harbour, Haleakala, The Road to Hana, hiking up Diamond Head).  I'll have to post up some shots from the last trip, in fact.

This time we really just relaxed and enjoyed the our resorts on O'ahu and Kaua'i. And with Kaua'i being a very small island, it took us only a day and a half to drive around it. More of that later, but first, here are a few captures of the day and night views from our hotel in O'ahu.

I have to say, I'm loving my new baby, the Nikon D7000, but I'm still figuring it all out...it's an amazing camera but I feel like I haven't really had the opportunity to really utilize it as I didn't want to take it out on the beach or in the rain (yes, it rained quite a bit while we were there) so I ended up using our Canon PowerShot D10 Waterproof Camera as we were mostly in the water! It's a fantastic underwater camera and I'll post some shots from it, soon.

Paris Teaser

I don't know why my Edinburgh upload didn't work, so here are a few samples of Paris.
This was the view from our Hotel. The Eiffel Tower sure is tall, dark and handsome....

Yogger

(I'll try not to incorporate the last few letters of Photohogger so much in my entry titles, but it's fun while it lasts, non?)

I recently did a yoga shoot for a friend who's starting out her yoga teaching practice.  She's wonderfully warm and easy-going so N and I had a lot of fun with her at the shoot which was at our home as well as at the Harbourfront Centre.

Aarti was looking for yoga photos that weren't conventional (ie. sun-set-silhouette-type shots) but more of something organic with interesting body shapes.   She was really open-minded and we ended up with some really beautiful moments as well as some super fun shots (like the one we got of her out on the skating rink in her beautiful lehenga - even though it was a bitterly cold day!!)

Here's a peek.
