Rockport, MA

Rockport_2014_HOGGERCo._Title_011.jpg

My favorite part about living in the city is that we can drive to a different town and beach at any moment because it's close enough to not feel like too many hours in the car, but far enough to feel like we've gotten away for a day.

Whale Watching, Cape Ann

“Consider the subtleness of the sea; how its most dreaded creatures glide under water, unapparent for the most part, and treacherously hidden beneath the loveliest tints of azure. Consider also the devilish brilliance and beauty of many of its most remorseless tribes, as the dainty embellished shape of many species of sharks. Consider, once more, the universal cannibalism of the sea; all whose creatures prey upon each other, carrying on eternal war since the world began. "
― Herman Melville, Moby Dick

I've never been whale watching before, so when my sister got all of us tickets for my birthday in July, I was BEYOND thrilled about the prospect!

It's incredible that we're able to venture out, far out, into the Atlantic ocean, where deep, DEEP waters hide these wondrous creatures and if you're lucky you get to hang with the whales for a bit. How awesome is that? I can't even...

They.are.amazing.

Smooth, gentle, ENORMOUS. I felt very small. We all did.

Come with me to Gloucester, Massachusetts where we set off from Cape Ann one early morning...

Vancouver: Capilano Suspension Bridge

I used to be terrified of heights, but have been overcoming my fear with rollercoasters, rock-climbing and now, traipsing over the Capilano Suspension Bridge in British Columbia (also the longest and highest suspension bridge in the world)!

It was a lot sturdier than I thought, and our little introductory tour of the site helped...especially knowing that it's no longer made out of hemp rope and cedar planks!

The Capilano (First Nations name Kia'palano, meaning "beautiful river") bridge crosses over the Capilano River, 70 metres (230 ft) above and 140 metres (460 ft) across, and has since been rebuilt with steel cables anchored into 114 tons of concrete. They say it can carry 1333 people.

But it still sways. Very much, so.

(Too bad Instagram video didn't exist a couple of weeks ago, that would have been perfect!)

The new edition to the other end of the bridge is the Treetop Adventure, various smaller suspension bridges created in 2004 that allow you to trek through the trees with a birds-eye view of all the beautiful age-old greenery that Vancouver is known for. It started raining a little, but we couldn't even tell for the lush canopy overhead.

Vermont: Stowe Mountain Lodge

You know how you picture "skiing in the mountains" to be? Snow, skiis, hot chocolate, a log cabin, a fireplace and alpine sweaters?

That's exactly what Stowe Mountain Lodge is like! We even lucked out with maple taffy treats courtesy of Slopeside Syrup, scored a free gondola ride to the top and back, while having a great view of my hubby skiing down.

All in all a good ski weekend, I'd say!

This is London, Day 1

A lot of people are considering shifting away from Instagram in light of their new terms of service and I have to admit, I just started using the new Flickr app, which I think is quite robust.

Still, while in London, I Instagrammed a lot and enjoyed how easy it was to share my adventures, but then I realized, there are also these...the real photographs.

This is London. Day 1.

The Hamilton's IV

The Hamilton's are always a treat for me to capture, and they are no strangers to this blog! Last summer we went nautical in downtown Oakville and the time before that, we took to the barns!

I feel so blessed to have been able to shoot their fourth annual family portraits this year, where our session took place in their gorgeous home and outdoors on a rainy (pre-Hurricane Sandy) fall day...

To K+S, I just want to say, it's always a pleasure; thank you so much for your support! xo
