Rockport, MA

Rockport_2014_HOGGERCo._Title_011.jpg

My favorite part about living in the city is that we can drive to a different town and beach at any moment because it's close enough to not feel like too many hours in the car, but far enough to feel like we've gotten away for a day.

Whale Watching, Cape Ann

“Consider the subtleness of the sea; how its most dreaded creatures glide under water, unapparent for the most part, and treacherously hidden beneath the loveliest tints of azure. Consider also the devilish brilliance and beauty of many of its most remorseless tribes, as the dainty embellished shape of many species of sharks. Consider, once more, the universal cannibalism of the sea; all whose creatures prey upon each other, carrying on eternal war since the world began. "
― Herman Melville, Moby Dick

I've never been whale watching before, so when my sister got all of us tickets for my birthday in July, I was BEYOND thrilled about the prospect!

It's incredible that we're able to venture out, far out, into the Atlantic ocean, where deep, DEEP waters hide these wondrous creatures and if you're lucky you get to hang with the whales for a bit. How awesome is that? I can't even...

They.are.amazing.

Smooth, gentle, ENORMOUS. I felt very small. We all did.

Come with me to Gloucester, Massachusetts where we set off from Cape Ann one early morning...

Greece: Santorini, Cat and...

Dog.

That was what this cute cat was intently gazing at.

Wasn't at all fazed when I went right up with my camera.

Greece: Mykonos, at Night

Nothing like some twinkly lights reflected upon the water with a warm summery breeze fluttering through your hair.

And. Seeing these guys, again. Have a lovely weekend!

Greece: Ferry to Mykonos

The next morning we were off to Mykonos via Hellenic Seaways' high speed ferry, which took about 4-5 hours includinng stops along the way at smaller islands. We boarded from Piraeus in Athens. If you see vendors selling breads and pastries that look tasty, pass. They were quite disappointing. The food on the ferry is equally tasteless. The journey itself wasn't uncomfortable, however there were some hiccups with seating arrangements and a huge delay when we returned to Athens from Santorini, but that may have been due to the taxi strike at the time. However on the way to Mykonos from Athens, excitement prevailed over anything worth complaining about. And the views from the outdoor deck of the various islands were phenomenal.
