June: Art to Inspiration

It has taken me a while to get around to doing this month's Art to Inspiration, even though when I first saw this image, I was excited about it because right away an image clicked in my mind of what I wanted to pair it with. I saw the turquoise blue, the hanging objects and immediately knew.

So here it is, folks!

Jill Ricci's Float took me back to the streets of Bombay, India (y'all know how much I love a clothes line!)

Greece: Village of Oia

The other end of Santorini, is the famous Oia Village. Famous for what, you ask? Their sunsets. So after our beach day, we decided to stay on the bus until it reached Oia, to catch the sun setting.

But first, some sights along the way, and a curious dog who posed for pictures.

Seriously.

Greece: Santorini, Breakfast, Buses + Beaches

Although simple, the breakfast provided at the Hotel Sunny Villas was perfect and satiated us on our bus trip out to the black sand beaches for the day. One of the things that surprised me was seeing a Metro newspaper stand on the black sand beach! And seeing actual prickly pear plants!

Change in and out of your swim suit in here: Oh Hai!

Greece: Santorini, Donkeys

"Donkeeeey" (said in the voice of Shrek).

There is an option to ride a donkey up from the water's edge to the top. Otherwise, you can still see them as they come through the shopping alleys, like so.

Greece: Santorini, Blue Domes

We spent a good deal of time trying to find the famed blue-domed church, you know, the one that appears on every single Greek postcard or Google search for Santorini. Our quest to find the exact blue dome left us still searching several churches later. After meeting other tourists also in search of it, we all decided that there must be a separate, private, rooftop view of that particular view of that particular blue-domed church. We'd continue our search later...

Greece: Santorini, Blue

We saw some green, now back to blue. Also, the first sight of one (of many) famed blue-domed churches in Santorini! And one of my favourite things to shoot, clothes on a clothes line.

May: Art to Inspiration

YES! It's time for another installment of Art to Inpsiration, folks!

This month, we're looking at Echoes of Fragrant Voice by Jo Howe

What an interesting piece of work! Abstract and minimalist, with just two shades, light and dark. Which is very much what I look for in subject matter, as a photographer. Lightness and darkness together creating shape, and you need one shape to highlight the other.

In breaking this beautiful work into basic shapes of light and dark, I was then inspired by my own minimalist photograph taken in Santorini. Light and dark working in harmony.

Greece: Santorini, Chair

I had three chairs in my house; one for solitude, two for friendship, three for society.
