Paris: Rodin

No blog is complete without a Rodin post!  Okay, that's not true, but I have to share my Rodin experience.  We made it to the Rodin Museum 5 minutes before closing!  Oh the madness!  Here are some shots that were taken in those 5 minutes!  We loved the colourful stickers from the museum that were stuck on everything from the sidewalk to the posts outside the museum! The bicycle shot is for Hobography: welcome back!

Tsunami

Tsunami waves hit Hawaii in the early morning hours today (Friday) after Japan's northern coast was hit with an 8.9 magnitude earthquake. Kauai was the first of the Hawaiian islands to be hit by the tsunami, with waves of 3 feet.

Having recently visited the Hawaiian islands in December 2010, this all feels very scary and hits close to home. My prayers and thoughts go out to the people of Japan and Hawaii and all the other coastal areas that are at risk.

These images are of Kauai, taken from the plane, at the Spouting Horn (where water rushes under a lava shelf and bursts through a small opening at the surface.  Every wave produces another spray/spout of water) and at the Kilauea Lighthouse.

Family Day Weekend

We went away this past long weekend, and stayed in a ranch house in La Peche, Quebec.  It was a cosy cabin and although there were fourteen of us, we were all well accommodated.  We played charades, made s'mores, watched movies and ate poutine.  For breakfast we made waffles using this recipe.  We also spent the day in Ottawa skating on the Rideau Canal (the world's largest skating rink).  It was fuh-reeeeeeezing, but the beavertails made it all worthwhile.

Hope your weekend is filled with all kinds of goodness!

Boston: Markets

I love photographing markets.
The vegetables, the flowers, the lighting. It all reminds me of My Fair Lady.

Les Invalides, Paris

Built in 1679, Les Invalides (The National Residence of the Invalids) is an incredible piece of architecture.
The building houses the museum of the Army of France and is the burial site of Napoleon Bonaparte among other French war heroes.

Here are some shots.

Boston: Green and Red

Remember Amelie? If you haven't seen it, you must.  It's such a gorgeous film, not to mention how incredible the soundtrack is! If you have seen it, you'll remember how everything was red and green and although very French and Parisian, I felt inspired to post some Boston red and green (and white snow - there was SO MUCH SNOW!) shots.

Have a lovely weekend!

Paris: Bicycle

It's Friday, so here's a bicycle shot or two and a lovely green mosaic wall on the Rue de Rosiers.

It's a long weekend for us here in Toronto; Monday is "Family Day".
It's also Presidents' Day, for those of you in the States, so have a GREAT LONG WEEKEND!

Hawaii: Kaua'i: Hanalei Valley

There were so many gorgeous views whilst driving around the island of Kaua'i.

Here, the Hanalei Valley lookout point of the Hanalei National Wildlife Refuge.

Paris: McDonald's

Don't judge me.

We did it in India, so we had to do it Paris.

Eat at a McDonald's, that is.

And it was très magnifique!

Gotta love this guy who posed for the picture!

Oh we also had a Kronenbourg 1664 beer, but it wasn't cold enough.

Feathers and scales

Just saw Gnomeo and Juliet, a very cute film that some of my friends worked on (so go see it!), and the plastic pink flamingo reminded me of some of the beautiful birds and fish in Hawaii.

The flamingos were on our Oahu resort; we saw them 3 years ago and were just as smitten this time. They're so gorgeous!

There was a huge koi pond at our resort on Kauai; they even had a morning feed time you could participate in. The adorable parrot was also on Kauai; he loved posing for photos!

Paris: Macarons

So, everyone, and I mean EVERYONE told us to visit Ladurée in Paris for their famous macarons! We found a little kiosk at the  Printemps department store. I was surprised that the lady didn't allow us to take any photographs of it, though.  Also, we decided to save them to eat in the Jardin du Luxembourg, but by then, they were smushed.  We liked the pistachio best. A couple of them tasted like soap. I wish everyone had told us which ones to order.

Waterproof

The Canon PowerShot D10 waterproof camera was the best camera on this trip. It takes amazing under (and above) water pics and is sturdy enough for on-the-beach-type roughhousing.
